The Swamp Thing made its debut back in 1971 in House of Secrets #92 as a stand alone story soon after, the character became so popular that he was given his own solo run. My passion for monsters and comic books came together in the form of one particular character who intrigued me on the spot: the Swamp Thing. At the age I was discovering comics, I was also discovering the joys of horror movies I found my love for the genre in the form of the Universal monster flicks. I have always been drawn to darker characters as a kid, I wanted to read all the Batman and Spawn comics available. Comic books were among one of the first joys I experienced early in life. ![]() ![]() ![]() With trademark candor and fierce intelligence, hooks addresses the most common concerns of men, such as fear of intimacy and loss of their patriarchal place in society, in new and challenging ways. But toxic masculinity punishes those fundamental emotions, and it’s so deeply ingrained in our society that it’s hard for men to not comply-but hooks wants to help change that. In The Will to Change, bell hooks gets to the heart of the matter and shows men how to express the emotions that are a fundamental part of who they are-whatever their age, marital status, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. ![]() But to know love, men must be able to look at the ways that patriarchal culture keeps them from knowing themselves, from being in touch with their feelings, from loving. God damn if the follow-up Midwinter Of The Spirit wasn't every bit as good and chilling. I felt that Rickman had stumbled onto something a little bit unique and my doggedness was being rewarded. The first time I read Phil Rickman, Crybbe wound up in the 'wannabe' pile, but for some reason (that will possibly become obvious later) I persisted and hammered down December, Candlenight and The Chalice in what was perhaps the most subliminal streak of foresight I've ever had.Īn unspecified amount of time later, The Wine Of Angels appeared on the shelf and it was good. ![]() ![]() The only thing they have to go on is their gut feelings. Each fumbling along in unfamiliarity, it kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the mystery, and how they both tried to uncover answers without spilling their own secret. I nearly only gave this 3.5 stars because of the overdone aspect of amnesia in a story line, and the fact that the book resolves little… but I also liked that we don’t find out what exactly is going on, but uncover even more that needs to be sleuthed out.Ĭharlie and Silas really are different people from who they were sans amnesia – it is important to realise just how much memories make us the person we are… and how much it doesn’t. ‘ Never Never’ turned out to be exactly what I needed.
